Colorado Insurance CE Requirements (2026)
What every licensed Colorado producer needs to renew: 24 hours of approved continuing education, at least 3 hours of ethics — and the dedicated 3-hour homeowners course that catches many P&C producers by surprise.
The three requirements
| 24 total hours | Every producer licensed more than one year completes 24 hours of Division-approved CE per two-year compliance period. |
| 3+ ethics hours | At least 3 of the 24 must come from courses approved in the Ethics category — general P&C credit doesn't count toward this slice. |
| 3-hour Homeowners course | Unique to Colorado: producers holding Property & Casualty or Personal Lines authority must complete a dedicated homeowners-insurance course approved in the Homeowners category each cycle — born from the underinsurance lessons of the Marshall Fire and Colorado's hail-loss record. General P&C hours do not satisfy it. |
The homeowners rule is where producers get caught
No other state has an equivalent requirement, so producers who move to Colorado — or who renew on autopilot with a generic 24-hour national package — often arrive at renewal with 24 perfectly good hours and still non-compliant, because none of them carry the Homeowners designation. Check your transcript early: the course is only 3 hours, but it must be the right 3 hours.
How online self-study CE works in Colorado
Colorado approves self-paced online CE. You study on your own schedule; the state requires active study time per credit hour, and the final exam (70% to pass) must be supervised by a proctor — an impartial adult with no family or financial relationship to you, in person or over video. Completions are reported to the state electronically and you receive your certificate within 7 days.

Elite Training Academy is a Colorado-approved CE provider (Provider #237818). All three courses below are approved by the Colorado Division of Insurance for Continuing Education Credit:
- Comprehensive Producer P&C CE — 24 hours, $44.99 — approved as 18 Property/Casualty + 6 Ethics hours (Course #67673), so it covers the total-hours requirement and the ethics sub-requirement in one course.
- Colorado Homeowners CE — Coverage Mastery — 3 hours, $14.99 — approved in the Homeowners category (Course #67674); satisfies the dedicated homeowners mandate with wildfire, hail, and claim-handling content built for Colorado producers.
- Insurance Ethics for Producers — 4 hours, $19.99 — approved in the Ethics category (Course #67675); the top-up for producers who already have general hours and only need ethics.
A P&C producer starting from zero needs the comprehensive course plus the homeowners course: $59.98 total, against the $100+ the national providers charge for the same compliance. Lifetime access, an AI tutor on every lesson, and unlimited quiz retakes are included.
Frequently asked
How many CE hours does Colorado require?
Colorado insurance producers must complete 24 hours of approved continuing education per two-year continuing-education compliance period, including at least 3 hours of ethics. Producers holding Property & Casualty or Personal Lines lines of authority must also complete a dedicated 3-hour homeowners insurance course each cycle.
What is Colorado's homeowners CE requirement?
Colorado is the only state that requires producers with Property & Casualty or Personal Lines authority to complete a dedicated 3-hour homeowners-insurance CE course every renewal cycle — a response to the wildfire and hail underinsurance problems highlighted by the Marshall Fire. The course must be approved by the Division of Insurance in the Homeowners category; general P&C credit does not satisfy it. Our approved 3-hour course (Colorado course #67674) is $14.99.
Do ethics hours have to be a separate course?
No — ethics hours must come from courses approved in the Ethics category. Our 24-hour Comprehensive P&C CE is approved as 18 Property/Casualty + 6 Ethics hours (course #67673), so it covers the ethics sub-requirement by itself. We also offer a standalone 4-hour ethics course (#67675) for producers who only need ethics hours.
Are online self-study CE courses allowed in Colorado?
Yes. Colorado approves online self-study CE; the final exam must be passed with at least 70% and supervised by a proctor — an impartial third party over 18 with no family or financial relationship to you. Remote proctoring over video is permitted, so a coworker or another licensed agent on a video call qualifies. Our platform builds the proctor affidavit right into the exam flow.
How do I check how many CE hours I have?
Look up your CE transcript at sircon.com (Continuing Education transcript lookup) or through your NIPR account. Completions from our courses are reported to the state via Sircon after you finish, and you receive a certificate within 7 days.
What happens if I don't finish my CE before renewal?
Your license can lapse or be non-renewed, and reinstatement adds fees and paperwork. Colorado does not generally let you renew first and finish CE later, so complete your hours before your renewal date.
How much does Colorado insurance CE cost?
With Elite Training Academy: the full 24-hour package (including 6 ethics hours) is $44.99, the required 3-hour homeowners course is $14.99, and a standalone 4-hour ethics course is $19.99. The large national providers typically charge $50–$150 for equivalent hours.
