Where to apply and book the exam

• Washington is one of only ~11 states that ELECTS its Insurance Commissioner statewide.
• Washington is a MONOPOLISTIC workers' comp state — employers must purchase WC from the state's Department of Labor and Industries (L&I), not from private insurers.

Application fee

$50 (reinstatement $75 within 30 days, $100 within 60 days, $150 within a year) (Public Adjuster)

State exam

Insurance Producer exams are required for Life, Disability, Property, Casualty, Personal Lines, Credit and Surety, and not required for Variable Life and Variable Annuity or Travel. Surplus Line Broker sits the Surplus Lines exam, Crop Adjuster the Property exam, and Independent Adjuster and Public Adjuster the Property and Casualty exams. Life Settlement Broker requires no exam.

Fingerprints and background check

Applicants must be fingerprinted by IdentoGO by Idemia, scheduled 36 to 48 hours after the application is submitted. Prints already submitted to the Washington insurance commissioner within the past twelve months are not repeated.
