How to get your Virginia Health license

    Virginia P&C lines map to the same NAIC framework as most states: P&C combined, Personal Lines, or specialty lines. Most new producers start with combined P&C.

    Schedule your Prometric exam

    Virginia exams are delivered by Prometric (not Pearson VUE or PSI). The Bureau of Insurance licensing information bulletin (effective 2024-12-13) lists the current exam fee and registration steps; it showed $35 for the Property and Casualty exam.

    Pass the exam (70%)

    Virginia's Property and Casualty exam was 135 scored questions in 150 minutes in the Prometric bulletin. The bulletin does not print a pass mark, so confirm the passing score with Prometric or the Bureau of Insurance before you rely on one.

    Apply for your license through Sircon

    After passing, file your producer license application via Sircon. The Virginia SCC lists a non-refundable $15 processing fee per qualification per application (SCC Lines of Authority and Application Fees page, read 2026-09-30).

What score do I need to pass?

Virginia does not publish a passing score for this examination, so treat the candidate handbook as the authority rather than any figure quoted elsewhere.

Does Virginia require state-approved prelicensing education?

No. Virginia does not mandate prelicensing education for the Health license. The state exam is the standard qualification, but some applicants are exempt from it (for example by a prior license or a qualifying designation, and in some states an approved course). Check the exemptions listed on the Virginia State Corporation Commission — Bureau of Insurance website before you register and pay for an exam.
