What North Carolina requires

Application fee

$82 (reinstatement $84) (Insurance Producer)

State exam

Insurance Producer exams cover Life, Accident & Health or Sickness, Property, Casualty, Personal Lines and Med Supp/Long Term Care. Auto Physical Damage, Adjuster, Hail Adjuster, Public Adjuster, Surplus Lines, Title and the three bail bondsman classes all require exams.

Pre-licensing education

A Certificate of Pre-Licensing Education must be submitted by bail bondsman applicants. No pre-licensing education requirement is stated on this page for producer or adjuster classes, and no hour count is printed.

Fingerprints and background check

Since 1 October 2010 fingerprints have been required for initial Insurance Producer, Auto Physical Damage, Limited Representative, Public Adjuster, Title Insurance, Viatical Settlement Broker and bail bondsman licences. A $38 fingerprint fee applies and prints must be submitted electronically for a state and federal criminal history background check.

How to apply

File the resident initial application on NIPR BEFORE taking any required licensing examination. Exams cannot be scheduled until the NIPR application is complete and Pearson VUE sends an email authorisation.

Also worth knowing

NIPR applications are valid for six months from submission. North Carolina stopped issuing Broker licences on 7 July 2022. Producer amendment fee $44 plus $50 per line of authority.
