Where to apply and book the exam

We have not published a step-by-step Idaho checklist yet. These are the official sources; anything on this page that is not cited to one of them comes from the state's own published exam outline.

What Idaho requires

Transcribed from NIPR's Idaho resident licensing requirements page, read 2026-09-16. Fees and rules change; confirm against Idaho Department of Insurance before you file.

Application fee
$80 (Insurance Producer)
State exam
Insurance Producer exams are required for Life, Accident & Health or Sickness, Property, Casualty and Personal Lines, and not required for Variable Life and Variable Annuity, Credit, Surety, Travel or Pet. Bail Bond Agent, Public Adjuster and Independent Adjuster require exams; Surplus Lines, Life Settlement and Managing General Agent do not.
Fingerprints and background check
Individual applicants must complete a fingerprint and background check. Electronic fingerprint processing is arranged through PSI where prints were not already submitted with exam results, and no licence is issued until the FBI background check report reaches the Idaho Department of Insurance.
License term and renewal
Late renewal is allowed for up to one year past the licence expiration date.
Also worth knowing
Public Adjuster appears under lines of authority with an exam requirement but the page prints no fee for it. Minimum age is twenty-one for adjusters and eighteen for other classes.
