- State exam
- Insurance Producer and Surplus Lines applicants must pass the Hawaii licensing exams. Exams are required for Life, Accident & Health or Sickness, Property, Casualty, Personal Lines, Surety and Title, and for Independent Adjuster, Public Adjuster and Workers' Compensation Adjuster.
- Fingerprints and background check
- Fingerprinting has been required for resident licence applications since 1 November 2010, scheduled through the state's vendor FieldPrint.

- Apply electronically through NIPR's Resident License application.
- Also worth knowing
- No exam is required if a licence is reactivated within one year of inactivation. A General Excise Tax Licence is required. Public Adjusters must post a $10,000 surety bond.
